Below is a timeline and description of my work in the MAET program at MSU while I completed my masters
Summer Cohort Year #1: Summer 2014

During this fast and furious first year summer cohort I learned so many things in just a short span of 6 weeks. One of the many takeaways of this course was the foundational knowledge of TPACK (Technological Pedegogical Content Knowledge). This theory really changed my way of thinking about how to incorporate technology into the classroom in the sense that we need to reverse our thinking: we first need to think about the learning, and secondly find tools (technology) that will get us to our objectives in learning. I was also able to build my PLN (professional learning network) and began a Twitter account. This account has helpled me gain access to thousands of resources and connections.

Teaching Students OnlineIn this course I examined online learning and the ways in which educators can re-vamp their online or face-to-face classrooms with technology to better meet the educational needs of students. We focused on the ways in which teachers and students can post ideas and information to their students to foster collaboration and communication. One of my biggest takeaways from this course was the development of my online Schoology class. I since have continued to develop and use this course with my math students and was able to incorporate many of the things I learned into the development and management of the LMS.

Learning Mathematics with TechnologyIn this course I explored the interaction of school mathematics content, technology that supports mathematics teaching and learning, and the cognitive and social processes of learning. One of my main takeaways was the philosophy of instrumental understanding and relational understanding. I have since tried to incorporate resources into my math classroom that produce instrumental understanding with my students. This course has really pushed me to question my students more about the process, how they got there, and why their answers are/are not correct.

Learning Technology By DesignLearning Technology through Design is a course that analyzes the process of design through the lens of educational technology. During this course we looked specifically at the Stanford Design Model. One of the main projects of this course required me to solve a problem of practice. I chose to solve the problem of revamping the way that professional development is taught. This process required quite a lot of thinking, and then some more thinking. I was able to analyze this problem from many different lenses and angles in order to finally come up with a solution in the end. Check out my showcase to see the entire process!

Summer Cohort Year #2: Summer 2015
CEP 800, 815, and 822 dealt with many different theories behind education. We looked into behaviorist, cognitivist, constructivist, and motivation. We worked through these theories to figure out how they apply in each of our teaching experiences, and how to pick out the most important themes within each of them. Theories do not exist to completely revamp teaching, because every classroom is different and there really isn't just one theory that would work perfectly. As teachers we need to look at our own situations and look to the theories to give direction on the how and why aspects of teaching. During this cohort we also looked at misconceptions that students have and how these misconceptions completely revamp the way we approach new material. Background knowledge is one of the most important aspects of prior knowledge and as teachers we need to make sure that our students have sufficient background knowledge in order to chunk new information and build upon prior knowledge.
CEP 807: Summer 2015
Proseminar in Educational TechnologyThis course was the final "capstone" evaluation. My main project was to prepare an online portfolio summarizing my work in the MAET program. It was required that we present a final product that demonstrates our competence in using technology to support teaching and learning and our ability to present work clearly and professionally. Throughout this final project I had to reflect on my past experiences and draw on the most important pieces of my MAET career and present them in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
